Health & Nutrition
Family Food First Programme
The Family Food First programme runs in nurseries, pre-schools and children’s centres in Luton. We at Greenside are working with Family Food First and had our first visit from dieticians; Abbi and Lisa.
Family Food First are passionate about healthy eating and promoting a healthy lifestyles. They have a great team of dieticians, nutritionists and health professionals.
The programme encourages best practice and promotes good nutrition, oral health and physical activity. Early year’s settings achieve accreditation on the programme by providing good quality evidence that they are meeting the standards in:
- Policy and Practice – To have a food and health policy in place which adopts practices such as eat well and move more.
- Food and Health Education – Staff will have the appropriate level of knowledge and skills to promote healthy eating, good oral health and physical activity. Children will be able to learn about healthier food.
- Food Provision – Settings that have their own kitchens will provide food that meets national food based standard. This will enable them to achieve higher standards of practice through the Family Food First catering award.
- Working with Families – Parents and carers will be supported to help make healthier choices for their children and families. Family Food accredited settings will have information and advice on healthy eating and wellbeing.
